I absolutely adore the second Austin Powers film, The Spy who Shagged Me. When watching them again recently I thought that the second one couldn’t possibly be as funny as the first, because they share similar jokes and references.
I couldn’t have been more wrong; the film is just as funny as The International Man of Mystery because Mike Myers finds new things to poke fun at, and uses existing and new characters in fresh ways. This is especially true of how things are seen inside Dr. Evil’s lair, as the antagonist begins to emulate the protagonist in the hope that doing so would finally help him to defeat his arch-enemy.
And it is this difference in plot, moving away from it just being a ‘save the world from an evil plot’ plot, to it being personal between Austin Powers and Dr. Evil as well. Nothing can beat the use of shadows in ‘that tent scene’ either. I don’t think I’ve laughed so hard in a very long time.
If you are looking for a laugh and you enjoy a goof quality spoof, like it’s predecessor, The International Man of Mystery, the second Austion Powers film The Spy Who Shagged Me has stood the test of time.
